Since I’m in the mood for rainbows at the moment, here is a quilt I made quite a few years ago. It was for my son’s Grade 1 teacher who was getting married. I took fabric squares into school while she was away, and the children drew pictures with a fabric pen. After ironing them (If you dont iron at this point, the colours make the black run – we learned this from experience!) I gave the children 5 or 6 coloured fabric inks to colour with. They were asked to draw something the teacher would like.
Another safety tip for working with children, mark off or masking tape the edges of the squares. Children like to use ALL the paper/fabric and you get left with no seam allowance! Very tricky.
This quilt also won an award at a local quilt show in the collaborative category. The kids were super excited.
Speaking of being super excited. I bought some new toys today. Look – a rotating cutting mat and square ruler. Together with a long overdue rotary cutter blade, my block trimming is sooooo much easier now.
The man at the store wanted to know if it glowed in the dark. (I just checked – it doesn’t). It is non slip though, which makes such a difference. Almost makes trimming a pleasure.
