Every year I make birthday cakes for my nephew and nieces. Here is the cake designed with my now 12 year old niece, who is a big fan of the movies Frozen and Tangled. Apparently that makes her a Frangled fan. (You learn something every day)
So the cake needed Olaf in a spa, inspired by cakes on Pinterest, and a Tangled tower with Pascal the chameleon.
This is the sketch we came up with.
The party was a Disney theme.
There was however, a near disaster in the creating. I left home in the morning for a few hours, with this on the kitchen bench.
When I got home, it looked like this:
Who was responsible? This cute but naughty dog.
I had apparently left the cake too close to the edge of the bench, clearly an open invitation to help yourself. So I did some quick surgery to change the shape. Circles are so yesterday, oval teardrop shapes are very now.
And no one noticed it wasn’t round till I showed them this photo.
The tower is held up with pvc pipe, about 30cm long from the hardware store. (The man helping me was a bit confused when I said I needed it for a cake!) The lights are submersible led lights from the cake shop. The on/off controller is under the ice-cream cone tower roof which comes off and the wire holding the lanterns travels down the pipe and up through a hole in the tower room base board (and the cake). The lanterns are fondant with tylose powder added and I painted on the suns with food colouring when it was dry.
