Remember that little quilt with the circles on it from the weekend? The fun little raw edged applique, free motion quilted, not sure what I’m going to do with this yet piece? Well, I’ve turned it into a cushion cover. I haven’t got an insert for it yet, so here it is looking like a little mini quilt.
I bound the edges just like a quilt, and the back is just a pillow slip overlap. Not because I’m scared of zips or buttonholes or anything. Oh, wait, yes I am. The back is the same yellow as the binding.
So it was a fun little journey from this:
through an audition of a few fabrics;
to a straight line quilted section added on. Here is the back of the quilted cushion front. I guess it’s now hidden inside the cover forever.
I had to do a little quilt as you go joining to get the 2 sections together. I kind of made this up, but it seems to have worked. I have been asked to extend a quilt I made a few years ago, to make it bigger, and I think I’ll use a technique like this to add some wide quilted borders. Perhaps some more research might be in order.
